(they/them)

I’m Alej, a psychotherapist. I’m also an interdisciplinary creative, committed observer, a Madisonian, the child of an immigrant, a multiracial and queer adult. From 15 years in service industry to now, the purpose at the core of my winding career is simple: improving people’s living. Whether for a moment or a year, the root of my work has always been in the relational. The therapy space is no different.

As a therapist, I’ve been in community mental health (CMH) since 2022 until my transition out in 2025. I’ve worked with Dane County CCS/ Crisis Stabilization, self-pay, and insured clients. I’ve done drop-ins, facilitated grief groups, and provided cross collaboration with other providers to enhance client care. Most importantly, CMH allowed me to work with culturally and racially diverse clients in South Central Wisconsin. In CMH, honed my skills and resources in supporting queer and trans clients in securing gender-affirming care, broadening my ability to support multiracial/multicultural clients in identity integration, and establishing a collaborative couple/relational therapy approach. It reshaped the way I think about the field of mental health and the process of therapy.

My current practice is founded on a goal to continue specific work with LGBTQIA2S+ and multiracial clients seeking affirming care, and to become further specialized in working with these communities. From my time in community mental health, my values and commitment to the community are unwavering: I vow to continue to keep my services accessible, accommodating, informed by relevant findings, and with cultural sensitivity and humility at the forefront.

In my relationships, my work as a therapist, and as a member of my community, I am committed to the lifelong work of unlearning and undoing what I can that stems from patriarchy, White supremacy, and capitalism. I believe that my clients have a right to know my ethics and values, as those cannot be separated from our work. I invite prospective clients to ask questions that may enhance their comfort in attending services.
