Clinical Consultation for Therapists

I provide consultation for therapists who would like to be stronger providers for LGBTQIA2S+ and multiracial/multicultural clients. You might identify as an ally, but what does it mean to show up educated, capable, and with humility for our clients who are impacted by marginalization and systemic oppression?

Most of my clients describe wanting a therapist who they don’t have to explain their identities and experiences to. To be in session with a therapist that a client has to educate is challenging. Many clients often seek out therapists who share their lived experiences. For those therapists who do not have lived experience, I work to help them better understand their clients identities as well as how to engage in thoughtful and supportive reflection around identity.

Beyond that, we can also discuss the impact of political and social stressors, understanding current events, legislation and resources that impact our client’s overall wellness.

I provide a non-judgemental space to ask uncomfortable questions, process and challenge implicit biases, reshape your beliefs and approaches, and to process any emotions that come up when learning how to transmute our allyship into action.

In consultations, we can and will:

  • engage in education, understand best practices

  • recontextualize what we already know

  • challenge and deconstruct implicit biases

  • learn and practice clinically rich, personally protective documentation

  • maintain awareness of unique stressors and concerns impacting client wellness

  • identify further learning and resources

Sure, we can read books and watch videos to better understand our clients. I believe that open dialogue and reflective space challenges us to put what we are learning into action.
